BairBalliet (Kelly Bair, Kristy Balliet)

Architects

The BairBalliet agency was founded in 2016 by Kelly Bair, associate professor at the School of Architecture of the University of Illinois in Chicago and a graduate of Colorado University in Boulder and the UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design, and Kristy Balliet, professor of design at SCI-Arc and a graduate of Philadelphia University and the UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design. The agency’s speculative approach is expressed both through research projects and productions. It notably focuses on the convergence of virtual and physical geometric shapes, by exploiting the three-dimensional potential of lines. Lines are generated by a virtual reality system in which they accumulate to produce surface, mass, and volume. The agency’s work has been exhibited across the globe (including at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, The Los Angeles Architecture & Design Museum, and the Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art). In 2018, BairBalliet was a finalist in the Young Architect Program organised by MoMa PS1 in New York.

This work was created in relation with the collective installation  "The Architectural Beast" (2019) curated by Hernan Diaz Alonso.
