Gian Piero Frassinelli was born at Porto San Giorgio (Ascoli Piceno) in Italy. He joined the Florence University of Architecture in 1960 where he developed an interest in anthropology, and was involved in student protest movements. He graduated in 1968 and went on to join the Superstudio group of radical architects, later contributing to the seminars of Adolfo Natalini within the architecture university from 1973 onwards. After the dissolution of the Superstudio group, he pursued a professional architect career until 2003. Since 2000 he has been the curator of Superstudio’s archives in Florence, and teaches the anthropology of design at the European Institute of Design in Rome. Gian Piero Frassinelli has developed a perspective on architecture as a social and anthropological phenomenon mainly through design and writing.
