This “light tower,” deigned in 1963, was to be erected on the site of the horticultural exhibition in Essen in 1965. Its lanky form results from its rigorous geometric organization: a vertical structure composed of regular octahedrons. Each octahedron is fitted with a sheet of colored glass and equipped with a lamp, transforming the tower into a spectacular luminous object at nightfall. During the day, visitors to the exhibition could access the panoramic platform at the top of the tower via elevators. The bronze representation Günschel made in 1963 is the only three-dimensional object that survived the destruction of his models in the 1970s.
