IaN+

Head Office of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, Barcelone, 1998

In this project for the Head Office of the Fundacion Mies van der Rohe (1998), IaN+ relied on topological maps to analyze the different zones of activity and their place in the program. These diagrams indicate that the zones of activity spread back and forth from one level to another, as if their reference coordinates did not obey the law of gravity. This system of vertical flux, by which an activity circulates vertically as well as horizontally through a non-specific location, is a metaphor for the fluidity of Miesian space. The result is a building that rises vertically, where the activities occupy all the available space and spread in all directions. The building is a void filled with human activity; the void becomes the veritable substance of this dynamic space, in a dilution of the dialectic of contradictories.
